More about Noir des Carmes

Cucumis melo

Noir des Carmes is a French heirloom named for the Carmelite monks who once cultivated it.  Plants produce good yields of small, deeply ribbed melons with dark green, almost black rinds that turn golden yellow as they mature.  We recommend picking them while the rinds are still underdeveloped as they have a tendency to split.  You’ll enjoy watching them ripen on the counter as the uniquely mottled melons are both beautiful and fragrant.  Melons are the perfect size for two people, and the smooth, sweet flesh can be eaten with a spoon, straight from the melon.  Approximately 75 days to harvest.  Each packet contains a minimum of 25 seeds.
