More about Prizehead

Lactuca sativa

Prizehead lettuce is a very old heirloom variety introduced commercially in 1881 by D.M. Ferry and W.A. Burpee.  Plants produce large, loose heads of chartreuse-green leaves with blushed red margins.  Prizehead's wide, wavy leaves add volume to salad mixes and have a pleasant, velvety texture and excellent flavor.  The fast-growing lettuce plants show excellent heat tolerance and are slow to bolt.  Matures approximately 45 to 55 days from sowing.  Each packet contains a minimum of 250 seeds.
