More about Howden

Cucurbita pepo

Howden is an improved, field-type pumpkin bred by John Howden of Massachusetts in the early 1970's.  Plants produce excellent yields of attractive, deep-orange pumpkins weighing 20 to 25 pounds each.  Pumpkins have a nice shape, extra thick flesh, and hard, ridged skin that holds up for several weeks after reaching full maturity.  Sprawling 10-foot vines produce three to four pumpkins each.  An excellent variety for fall decorations and carving.  115 days to harvest.  Each packet contains a minimum of 25 seeds.
