More about Lacinato

Brassica oleracea

Also known as Nero di Toscana or dinosaur kale, Lacinato is an Italian variety dating back to the eighteenth century that produces long, wrinkly leaves with a distinct deep blue color.  Lacinato has become our favorite kale variety, owing to the color, texture, and flavor of its leaves, however we have noticed that cabbage worms also seem to prefer them over other kale varieties.  Therefore, organic gardeners should note that this variety will require a little extra attention.  On our farm, we have shifted to only producing this variety under a row cover.  60 days to harvest.  Each packet contains a minimum of 100 seeds.
