More about Ruby Red

Latuca sativa

Ruby Red is a looseleaf variety that produces vibrant ruby red leaves with chartreuse mid-veins and frilly margins.  In our opinion Ruby has the best texture of any lettuce variety.  The wrinkled leaves are both smooth and crunchy, but not thick or watery and seem to hold just the right amount of dressing.  They are never limp and they hold well in the refrigerator for days.  We've also been impressed with how well the plants do under cold frames, seeming to grow later into fall while most other lettuces are sitting still.  Harvests begin approximately 45 to 55 days after sowing.  Each packet contains a minimum of 250 seeds.

Too hot

The seeds are probably fine but mine did not germinate. I think our weather got too hot even with water. I will plant again.

Ruby red leaf lettuce

Seeds germinated quickly. Plants are still small so no updates on yield yet. Although I expect a wonderful amount of lettuce.
