More about Greenfield

Zea mays

Greenfield is an improved, open-pollinated variety of dent corn known for its long ears and dented, yellow-capped kernels.  Developed by Ned Place and named after his Wapakoneta, Ohio farm, Greenfield is an improved selection of the old variety, Reid's Yellow Dent.  We have to say, the ears on this variety are quite impressive, with the longest measuring 14 inches.  And we suspect they could've grown even longer had we pollinated them more than once (its apparent from the pictures that not all of the silks had emerged at the time of pollination.)  The plants grow 8-10 feet tall and have good standability, surviving some very high winds that blew through last summer.  The dented yellow kernels contain a high pe...
