How to Grow Yellow Coneflower

Yellow Coneflower prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It is drought tolerant and can tolerate a wide range of soil types, from sandy to clay. It prefers a slightly acidic soil pH of 6.0-7.0. It is also tolerant of some shade, but will produce fewer blooms in shadier conditions.

Can be direct seeded fall through mid-winter. For spring sowing, cold-stratify seed in a wet paper towel for at least two months. Sow seeds 1/8" deep into a prepared garden bed and water thoroughly. Plants require little care once established. Prefers full sun.

Harden off seedlings for a few days prior to transplanting. After danger of frost has passed, dig a hole roughly the size of the root ball and lower the seedling in, being careful not to disturb the roots. Backfill with loose soil and water well. Space plants 10-12" in all directions. Keep well-watered until the plants are established.

Yellow Coneflower is susceptible to powdery mildew, rust, and other fungal diseases. It can also be affected by aphids, Japanese beetles, and other pests.

Yellow Coneflowers make great cut flowers. They are long-lasting and have a bright, cheerful color that can brighten up any room. They also have a long vase life, making them a great choice for bouquets and arrangements.

CONSIDERATIONS:

Harvest the seeds when the flower heads are dry and brown. Cut off the flower heads and place them in a paper bag. Shake the bag to release the seeds. Store the seeds in a cool, dry place.
