More about Sweet Dakota Rose

Citrullus lanatus

Sweet Dakota Rose is an open-pollinated variety of watermelon developed by farmer David Podoll, who stabilized a cross between Early Canada and Black Diamond.  Developed for the cool climate of North Dakota, Dakota Rose is likewise well-suited for northern and high-altitude gardeners who similarly experience cool nights and short growing seasons.  Highly productive plants produce excellent yields of 10 to 20-pound watermelons with classic rattlesnake rinds and pinkish-red interiors.  The flesh has a refreshing, incredibly sweet flavor that makes it one of our favorites for serving chilled on a hot summer day.  Matures approximately 80 days from sowing.  Each packet contains a minimum of 25 seeds.
